From the Principal Desk

Over the next two weeks, as the students return to school, your child/ren may evoke many different reactions, from excitement about returning to anxiety about what school will be like and will they be safe. The children have had daily rituals that helped them cope with lockdown, and now these routines will need to change again. Some students may struggle with the early mornings, the inevitable morning rush and the separation from family. Some parents might feel the same separation anxiety. All of these emotions are completely normal. A helpful way to cope with the transition back to school is to create a plan. Planning is a huge part of any successful outcome.
  1. Reassure your children about returning to school.
  2. Start conversations about school routines and prepare them for possible changes in some school activities.
  3. Set the alarm to get children ready to wake at a particular time.
  4. Have a set recess and lunch break; you could even pack it in their lunchbox.
  5. Return to your regular bedtime routine.
  6. Be prepared, some children may be emotional. They may need some extra support.
  7. Talk about how each family member is feeling. For example, if younger children find it hard to express their feelings, they could draw or write how they are feeling.
