Please continue to keep in your prayers the children in our school and parish who are nearing the end of their preparation period. For this weekend, the children will present their posters on how they can act like Jesus in their everyday lives.

30 Year Anniversary of Pri
esthood - Bishop Brian Mascord

We extend our congratulations to Bishop Brian, who, last Monday, celebrated his 30th anniversary of priestly ordination. We are very blessed to have him as the leader of our diocese.  Bishop Brian recently made contact with our parish office to express his gratitude for the warm welcome he experienced when he celebrated Confirmation at St Francis of Assisi earlier this year. He wanted to especially extend his congratulations to the children who were confirmed and assure their families of his continued prayers.

Significant Feast Days - All Saints Day and All Souls Day

All_saints_Day.png
On Tuesday, November 1, the Catholic Church throughout the world recognised the Feast of All Saints. All Saints Day is a holy day that honours all martyrs and saints, known and unknown. Saints are people who dedicated their lives to God and served others unselfishly. Through our Baptism, we are all called to be saints. All Saints Day is a day to reflect on the qualities of the saints and the model of Christian living they provide for us as we strive to be the saints of the future. As a school, we celebrated All Saints Day by joining the parish community for a Liturgy of the Word with Communion. Special thanks to Vera Cleary for leading our liturgy.

Yesterday, November 2, the Catholic Church celebrated All Souls Day. All Souls Day is a holy day of prayer dedicated to all who have died. On All Souls Day and throughout the month of November, we remember with thanksgiving and prayer, those who have died.

Both All Saints Day and All Souls Day are important feast days for Catholics, and many other Christians, because they remind us that we are always connected, even to those who are deceased. As you remember your loved ones in prayer this November, you may like to say the following prayer from our Tradition:

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

Wear Crazy Socks for Catholic Mission - Tomorrow, Friday 4 November

Sock.png

In our last newsletter, it was noted that Catholic Mission uses the month of October to do its main fundraising and awareness-raising campaign, ‘Socktober’.  The focus country for this year’s fundraising campaign is Ethiopia.  To learn more about Ethiopia and how getting involved in Socktober can help them, click here.

To support the important work of Catholic Mission, we invite the students to wear crazy socks to school tomorrow in return for a gold coin donation. Classes will also engage in a soccer shoot-out.

Like children around the world, many children in developing countries love to play the game of soccer, though they don’t always have access to the kinds of soccer balls we have here in Australia. Instead, they use recycled materials and create their own soccer balls, or ‘sockballs’.

As one of the main activities of Socktober, people are encouraged to make their own ‘sockball’ to form a connection with the children they support through the program.  In our last newsletter, I shared a link to a video showing how to make a sockball.  If you have made a sockball, your child is invited to bring it along on Friday for our soccer shoot out.
