VEX Go Robotics
For a number of years now, the students have been participating in MakerSpace sessions, during recess and lunch. Students can gather with shared interests, in computing or technology, and work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment and knowledge. This has revolved around LEGOBoost, a LEGO product that lets children create models with motors and sensors, bringing their creations to life through simple, icon-based coding.
At the end of 2022, we purchased a number of VEX products, including the hugely popular VEX Go. VEX Go is a construction system that teaches students the fundamentals of STEM through collaborative, hands-on activities.
This term, Mr Gilmore will be working with the students and the focus of the lunchtime MakerSpace session will be VEX Go. Students have the opportunity to explore teamwork and collaboration, trial and error, compromise, and conflict resolution, in the process of building some amazing robots. Students will then learn how to code them.

During the term, staff will engage in professional learning and will have the chance to play and experiment, while looking at the uses of VEX Go and VEX 123 in various key learning areas, such as Mathematics, Science and Technology, English, and Visual Arts.
Towards the end of Term 2, some students will have the opportunity to share with the school community their experience with VEX Go. These students will also become mentors for the next 18 months, supporting both staff and students in their use across the school.
