PB4L - Positive Behaviours for Learning
Our PB4L focus for Week 5 is Respect for Others:
When we are showing Respect for Others, we can:
- Look at others when they are talking
- Speak courteously and kindly to others
- Be aware of and accept other people's differences
- Listen to other people's opinions
- Encourage positive friendships
- Keep personal space
Examples of behaviours that negatively impact respectful, responsible, and safe behaviours when Respecting Others include:
- Minding someone else's business
- Taking someone else's belongings
- Speaking unkindly to someone or about someone
- Bossing people around
- Physical aggression
- Invading someone's personal space
- Keeping friends to myself
We would greatly appreciate your support by discussing these weekly focuses with your children and reviewing the expected and non-acceptable behaviours in our endeavour to see that St Francis of Assisi continues to be a more respectful, responsible, and safe learning community for all.

Semester One Reports for Years 1-6 will be released via Compass on Friday 23 June (Week 9). Instructions on how to access your child's report on Compass will be shared in the Week 6 newsletter.
Please note that Kindergarten students do not receive a formal, written report in Semester One. However, parents and carers will have the opportunity to meet with the teacher to discuss their child's learning (see below).
In conjunction with Semester One reports, we will be holding 3-way conferences with students, teachers and parents/carers, to discuss their learning to date.
These will occur between Weeks 8 - 10 of this term. Bookings will be made through the Compass portal. Details of how to create a booking will be sent out in the Week 6 newsletter.
Your child is encouraged to attend these meetings with you to have an input into their learning so far and be a part of planning learning goals for Semester Two.

ICAS Competitions
St Francis of Assisi will participate in the ICAS competition this year. These competitions will be available to Year 3-6 students.
What is ICAS? ICAS is an online academic competition designed to assess students' higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills in English, Mathematics, Science, Writing, Spelling Bee, and Digital Technologies.
Each assessment celebrates students' accomplishments by providing opportunities for recognition and development. Every student who participates will receive a printed certificate and an online report. Top performers will be eligible for medals.
Please note these competitions are completely optional and have a cost associated with them. Please see the attached information sheet and contact Mr Murphy if you have any questions. The closing date to order these assessments is Monday 31 July 2023. The tests will be held at school during August, and further information will be provided to students and families who have opted to take part.

Surf Sense Water Safety Education Program

Wollongong City Council will conduct its surf education program as they have in previous years. This program targets students in Years 2, 4 and 6. The program objective is to increase the student's knowledge of the hazards associated with any beach along the coastline and to reduce the rate of incidents on our beaches. The surf sense workshop will be held on Thursday 27 July.
