Annual School Improvement Goal
The staff at St Francis of Assisi have been reflecting on the progress and impact of our 2024 School Annual Improvement Goal: “Students will demonstrate growth in their reading skills.” Throughout the year, whole-school assessments have been used to track and monitor student progress and achievement in reading.
The school leadership team and teachers work collaboratively during staff meetings, planning sessions, and staff development days, engaging in discussions and offering constructive feedback to enhance teaching practices. By using a range of assessments, teachers identify each student’s reading strengths and areas for improvement, adjusting instruction to meet individual goals. Our shared curriculum expectations guide these collaborative efforts, ensuring alignment between curriculum, teaching, learning, and assessment.
We have seen significant improvements in student engagement and self-efficacy in reading, with notable growth in decoding, reading fluency, students’ questioning abilities, and comprehension skills. Congratulations! Staff are currently reviewing the school’s Strategic Improvement Plan and developing the Annual Improvement Plan goal for 2025.

Remembrance Day - 11 November

As we approach Remembrance Day, we pause to honour and remember those who served and sacrificed in times of war for the freedom and peace we cherish today. On November 11th, we reflect on the courage, dedication and selflessness of men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty. As a school community, let us understand the significance of this day and carry forward a message of peace in our lives. Our school community will gather at 11 am on Monday 11 November. Lest we forget.

The Kindergarten Orientation will be held on Thursday 14 November from 9.30 am to 10.30 am. Thank you to Ms Beckhaus our Kindergarten teacher, the leadership team and school support staff for all their organisation of the transition to school and orientation days.
When do Kindergarten Start School in 2025?

A special thank you to our P&F and families for your generous donation towards new classroom reading books and support for our 2024 representative sport and gala days. As you know, reading has been a key focus for our students this year. With sustained enthusiasm and engagement from both staff and students, we have undertaken a thorough review of our classroom readers to ensure they meet the interests and reading levels of all students, fostering a love of reading school-wide. Your contributions have made it possible for us to refresh and expand our reading resources, making a lasting impact on students’ reading journeys. Thank you to everyone who supported the P&F’s fundraising efforts this year. Your generosity and commitment are truly appreciated and felt throughout our school.
