Maker Space
For the last 10 weeks, students from Year 4 have participated in our 3 days per week, lunch-time Maker Space. The focus for our upper primary classes has been LEGOBoost. This was the first time these particular students had the chance to interact with the LEGOBoost product. While some were reserved, to begin with, that trepidation slowly changed and they embraced the challenge placed before them - the construction of Vernie the Robot. Mind you, the creativity started immediately with robot naming - Arianna, Stacey, Alyssa, Toby, Jot-hom #1 and #2, Jeffrey and so on.
Students formed groups of 3 to 4, and the building commenced! For some students, this was their first experience working with LEGO, which in turn led to mistakes, which in turn led to the need to re-build, sometimes from the beginning once again! The opportunity to code their robots was definitely the highlight, although requests for music at lunchtime was constantly heard from the same group of girls. Maybe LEGO building while dancing and singing will be a thing of the future at SFAW!
A job well done Year 4, I look forward to having a new LEGO building project with you in 2020! Mr Gilmore
