Digital Citizenship is defined as appropriate, responsible and ethical behaviour with regard to the way we use and interact with technology.

Self-protection through education and empowerment is the key for children to protect themselves against threatening or harmful situations online.

For more information on what young people do online, the challenges they may face, what they can do and who they can talk to if something goes wrong, please visit www.thinkuknow.org.au

“The interactive nature of many of the new media facilitates more dynamic forms of learning and communication, thereby contributing to social progress" and as educators we should... "encourage all people of good will who are active in the emerging environment of digital communication to commit themselves to promoting a culture of respect, dialogue and friendship.” Pope Benedict XVI, 2008.

Parents are asked to be aware of some highly inappropriate videos circulating online at present. The video clips are appearing on many social media sites and YouTube, including (Kids YouTube). One of the videos starts innocently, like a Peppa Pig episode but quickly turns into an altered version with violence and offensive language. Another of the video clips by the name of ‘MoMo’ shows a character in a warped white mask. This material can be highly distressing for children to view. We encourage you to be vigilant and supervise your child if using devices and viewing videos. We strongly discourage students from promoting such material to other students.
